A room full of Upper Keys residents and many higher ranking members of the Sheriff's Department, (Clad mostly in Ramsay for Sheriff shirts) were treated to the first in depth Sheriff's candidate forum held last Thursday, July 5 in Tavernier.

The debate, hosted by the Tavernier Community Association highlighted both the Republican contenders, Bill Grove, Jake Brady, and Rick Ramsay, as well as the Democratic candidates squaring off, Tom Peteck, and Matt Koval. It was a well orchestrated informative evening, highlighting a stark contrast of what some might define as four "boots on the ground" agents of change, versus "heir apparent," Colonel Rick Ramsay representing the top admin of the MCSO.

Below we have broken the forum into multiple videos, highlighting specific statements or questions in the order as they occurred. Also, let us know who you think won this first debate. Polls are at the bottom of the page broken up by party. Enjoy.

  1. I appreciate the support. However we were hoping to be able see a true picture of the publics reaction to our message. I know one of candidates recieved a large number of votes in a short period of time late last night. I also relize I did not receive 130 votes in a hour from random visitors to the site. I do appreciate the thought but we are running a transparent and honest campaign. We do not want to mislead anyone.
