Linda Gottwald Corrects Misinformation Presented by Clerk of Courts Candidate Kevin Madok
- Naked Conch - Posted by Matt Gardi - August 12, 2012After having reviewed the latest Clerk of Courts forum put on by the Marathon Chamber of Commerse, Linda Gottwald of Stand Up For Animals took exception with facts presented by Candidate Kevin Madok. She recently sent this letter to numerous news agencies in response.
During the Aug. 6 Election 2012 Candidate Forum, Clerk of the Court candidate Kevin Madok stated that "law enforcement agencies had to be brought in to help with the subpoenas and records requests" during the clerk's audit of Monroe County's animal shelter contractor, SUFA. This is untrue. We challenge him to name a single requested document that would support this statement.
Mr. Madok is either misinformed, dishonest or blindly obedient to his superiors. None of these characteristics will serve Monroe County well.
Gottwald's issue highlights what I have been speaking about frequently throughout this campaign for Clerk of Courts. Kevin Madok seems to state whatever is expedient and serves his purpose at the time he says it, regardless of it's truthfulness. (Such as his claim to be a CPA when he applied to the Clerk's Office) I have challenged him on numerous issues that he will not respond to...mostly because he has no answer. Such as this question that correlates with Gottwald's issue that I sent to him on July 14.
That was one of the many questions Mr. Madok refused to answer. We also hear Madok claiming he never campaigned on his CPA credentials. Those that want the truth might listen to this short clip from some campaign events. The County is now being sued as a direct result of the Clerk's Office conducting a witch hunt of an audit and freezing the assets of an area non-profit without due process. On Bill Becker's morning show you state "I do know that there were a lot, a lot of law enforcement agencies involved in this case," and try to make it seem like it wasn't just the Clerk's Office that was responsible for the pursuit of this matter. Then when questioned further by Becker, you change your statement to "I believe so." Dennis Ward suggests his office pursued the matter only at the request of the Clerk's Office.Aside from the investigation conducted by the Office of the State Attorney at the BEHEST of the Clerk's Office, what other Law Enforcement Agencies were involved (surely there are "a lot, a lot" of them)?
Finally, for those of you that would like to make an informed decision as to who you want leading the Clerk's Office, I invite you to toss all the written rhetoric and claims out the window and hear what the candidates actually have to say. Spend the 30 minutes it takes to listen to a recent Clerk's forum put on by the Key West Chamber. You owe it to yourself and our community.
Madok is either an absolute idiot or a crook without even the slightest sense of guilt over violating the law.
ReplyDeleteWatch that video and see Mr. Madok's dismissal of the ruling by the 3rd District Court of Appeals as just a "uhhh, uhhh, uhhh, judgement call". Madok also says quite matter-of-factly "I don't think it should have been handled any differently", "I don't think the Clerk overstepped any bounds", and "the freeze was appropriate".
Sounds to me like he's very accustomed to the viewing the actions of Monroe County government as being above the law! Don't bother us with legal rulings 3rd DCA, this is Monroe County and we'll do whatever we feel like doing!
Breaking news: Setting aside over 200 years of legal precedent, Madok overturns Marbury v. Madison!!!
Madok now final authority on legal matters.
